Bath & Grooming
Bath time goes from a slippery five-minute event in the kitchen sink to a real ritual by month four. The gear matters less than people think: a non-slip insert, a hooded towel, a gentle wash, a comb. We test what survives and skip the gadgets. AAP guidance on bathing frequency and skin care is the baseline.

Bath & Grooming: frequently asked questions
- How often should a newborn bathe?
- Two to three times a week is plenty for the first year. More than that dries the skin. Spot-clean diaper and food spills daily; full baths are a treat, not a chore.
- What soap is safe?
- Fragrance-free, dye-free, sulfate-free. The label does not need to say 'baby'. Look at the ingredient list, not the front of the bottle.
- Tub, sink, or bath seat?
- A small infant tub for the first few months. The kitchen sink works if you prefer. Bath seats are for sitting babies, six months and up, and never unattended.
